Role Overview🚀

Elective is looking for a Business Operations & Strategy Analyst to join our rapidly growing team, reporting directly to the Head of Finance & Risk while working closely with our Co-Founder & CEO. In this role, you will be responsible for owning various credit, risk, compliance, and operational initiatives.

We are looking for a highly analytical, proactive, and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a dynamic startup environment and is passionate about driving business growth and operational excellence. This individual will have an opportunity to work with a talented team and learn a lot in a short period of time.

This is a dynamic role that will evolve with the business and no day will be the same. You’ll work on key projects that directly impact the company’s direction while building a well-rounded skillset along the way. Out of the gates, the role will focus on three key areas: (1) Credit & Risk, (2) Legal & Compliance, and (3) Operations & Strategy.

What You'll Do 💻

  • Credit & Risk
  • Evaluate Performance: Analyze the loan book performance to identify risks and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations to enhance returns.
  • Monitor Merchant-Level Risk: Track performance at the merchant level, developing frameworks and processes to detect trends and insights that highlight potential risks and opportunities.
  • Enhance Onboarding & Adjudication: Improve the merchant onboarding and adjudication process by assessing and implementing new and existing indicators of merchant risk.
  • Reporting & Insights: Own the reporting of credit and risk metrics, and enhance existing reports to uncover new trends and insights.
  • Legal & Compliance
  • License Management: Assist in securing state licenses by collaborating with legal counsel to gather and provide necessary documentation.
  • Renewal Process: Manage the license renewal process by tracking key deadlines and ensuring timely submission of renewal applications.
  • Operational Compliance Framework: Help develop and maintain our compliance framework using our existing policies and processes to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, with support from third-party counsel.
  • Audit Support: Assist the Head of Finance & Risk in preparing for and responding to external regulatory audits.
  • Operations & Strategy
  • Strategic Analysis: Support strategic decision making by conducting analyses and presenting recommendations to senior team members
  • Process Development: Collaborate with senior team members to implement strategic initiatives by creating new processes and procedures from the ground up.
  • BI Tools & Automation: Utilize BI tools to automate reporting, providing real-time insights that enable quick and informed decision making.
  • Operations Support: Provide flexible and proactive support on high-priority tasks and initiatives as they arise, ensuring swift and effective execution of urgent business needs.


About You 🎯

  • Education: Bachelor degree or equivalent in business, economics or a related area.
  • Experience: A new grad or 1-2 years of experience in operations, strategy, investment banking, or consulting.
  • Intellectual Curiosity: you like and are good at learning new things and are excited about taking on a new challenge outside of your comfort zone.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: you thrive in a fast-changing, unstructured environment where taking autonomy and ownership over your work is celebrated and outcomes can be ambiguous.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, data visualisation tools.
  • Problem Solving: you enjoy working independently and with a team to solve ambiguous and complex problems.
  • Communication: you have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an aptitude for data-driven storytelling.
  • Collaboration: you have strong interpersonal skills, have a positive attitude with high integrity and low ego, and are comfortable collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders.


Bonus points if you:

  • Have experience working at a startup or in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Have worked at a fin-tech or financial institution and have experience analyzing credit metrics
  • Have working at a regulated entity in a compliance related role
  • Are proficient in SQL or similar programming languages or experience leveraging LLMs like ChatGPT to perform code-based data analysis
  • Are proficient and have experience working with BI software that leverages AI

This is a full-time and in-person role located at our 2015 Main Street office in Vancouver, BC.

Elective is committed to paying our team members fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. The estimated salary range for this role is $60,000 to $90,000. Your specific salary will be determined based on your job-related skills, knowledge, experience, and our internal assessment. It is possible to join Elective at a salary above or below this range and this range does not include any discretionary bonuses or benefits.
