Your New Role and Team
Sanctuary, a world leader in building AI-based control systems for humanoid robots, is looking to hire a skilled and motivated Junior Mechanical Designer, Robotics to join our Hardware team. Reporting to the Mechanical Design Team Lead, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the design and implementation of the robotics and mobility systems within our general-purpose robots.
As Sanctuary’s Junior Mechanical Designer, Robotics, you'll be a valued part of the team as you design novel and bleeding edge systems with 3D design tools, develop prototypes, perform simulations, manage fabrication and participate in assembly and construction. You will be pivotal in building our next generation robotic hardware, and maximizing current system performance.

Our Success Criteria

  • Bring hands-on experience as you design and optimize robotic parts and assemblies in Onshape Design with the ability to optimize actuators, robotics arms, and lift mechanisms (e.g. hands, arms, face, neck, and torso)
  • Gain career experience as you conceptualize and design novel actuator topologies, synthesize low-level design requirements from high-level functional requirements, and solve robotics-specific research and engineering problems as they arise
  • Expand your technical experience as you use simulation and modeling to optimize the design of innovative mechanisms with tight packaging constraints, implement design improvements to existing parts, and 3D print, assemble, and test prototypes
  • Achieve team-wide visibility as you work with other team members to create documentation and assembly instructions for your designs, draft drawings and manage the machining process, and design equipment to improve the speed and efficiency of production/maintenance
  • Tap into your mentorship skills as you help technicians with assembly during times of peak production
  • Your Experience
  • Degree in mechanical engineering, engineering physics, a related technical field or equivalent work experience
  • 1+ years of 3D CAD experience
  • Experience with the specification and analysis of gears, actuators, bearings, etc.
  • Experience with design-automated manufacturing machines, and assembly tools
  • Experience with prototyping, robotics, mechatronics, machining, and 3d printing
  • R&D experience
  • Experience designing complex moving mechanical assemblies
  • Skills:
  • Highly skilled mechanical designer with complex/innovative projects in your portfolio
  • You are familiar with all stages of the manufacturing process, engineering drawings, tolerancing, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Comprehensive communication skills; ability to tailor your style to various audiences
  • Collaborates well with other members of the team and the project lead to determine the best path forward on various project elements
